Food Service/Production Industry

Teflon™ PTFE coatings were invented by DuPont (now Chemours) in the mid 20th century. It was recognized that Teflon™ coatings offered superior non-stick properties for baking, cooking, and frying applications. The original Teflon™ coatings were soft and easily scratched. Chemours Teflon™ was then fortified with resins and ceramics to improve both the wear resistance and the life of the coating. Shortly thereafter the Teflon™ coating family was expanded to include PFA and FEP based coatings. Teflon™ PFA coatings and Teflon™ FEP coatings melt and flow providing a continuous fluoropolymer film, compared to Teflon™ PTFE which sinters, but does not flow. Teflon™ PFA offers the same use temperatures as PTFE (500°F) and FEP (400°F).

Automated food processing and production requires consistent application of Teflon™ fluoropolymer coatings to maximize both product quality and quantity. Having one out of 1,000 pieces stick is not only frustrating, but costly. Downtime to clear sticks/jams, defective parts, cross-contamination are all too familiar when the wrong coating is selected.

Plas-Tech Coatings is different. We take the time to understand your needs and problems. We will work with you so we don’t test for the sake of testing, but actually measure what matters to YOUR process.

We work with Teflon™, Tefzel™, Xylan®, Molykote®, and Halar® brand coatings, encompassing the full breadth of fluoropolymers including PTFE, PFA, FEP, ETFE, and ECTFE. Each product has unique features that can be used to develop the best coating for your application.
